I bet the problem is due to my usb flash drive. However, I still get the EBIOS read error. Let's assume the machine is in AHCI mode, I don't think this is my problem anyway since I remember installing (but not running) leopard without enabling the AHCI. With latest drivers, including the Bios one from 5 days ago, Version R0140Y7.Ībout the Vaio Bios modes, I had no idea it had two modes and it doesn't tell me in which mode I am. I also found out that for some reason I probably did not have the AHCI controller.

If all else fails maybe you should consider fed - Exing it here for me to work on and develop an install method for the other Vaio users out there. I'm telling you, if I had that laptop in front of me I would bet money I could get snow leopard installed on it. That laptop has the sony dynamic link bios library which tells me the laptop has that very feature of allowing you to set bios settings from within windows using sony apps. If indeed they lock the bios the sony freaks usually give you a way to set things using a UI of some kind in the system utilities they add on. I'd install all that Sony software, especially the sony applications and system components. There's a new bios update released 5 days ago. Did you guys perhaps set a bios password or did it come from wherever with one already set? "User mode" is limited to only showing a few things in Bios setup menus (sounds like what you're seeing).
The Vaio Bios has two modes - supervisor and user. (Be sure you're up on making win7 compatible with AHCI mode first so you don't just blow up your win7 install). If not, run this from windows and it will be afterwards. More than likely your mobo is already set to AHCI mode. Install them - they will more than likely set firmware settings and / or update the chipset firmware.
